After doing extensive genealogical research The Potato Point Chronicle was able to confirm the origins of New London’s name as being from Asia. A lost merchant vessel full of future state wrestlers and cross country runners looking to trade spices mistakenly got lost in the Saint Lawrence River and entered the Great Lakes system. After months of travel, and wrestling championships, the ship arrived in New London, via the Fox River’s connection to the Wolf River.

After arriving and specializing in running campgrounds, the city founders decided to name their city New London because London and Old London were already taken.
